When we were first approached by Mr and Mrs P to design a luxury shaker kitchen for their beautiful house, set deep in the Derbyshire countryside they were still building the new kitchen extension. With a growing family, they wanted a larger area for family kitchen dining. A kitchen island to seat 6 for informal eating, doubling as an entertainment hub for gatherings of friends and family was a key requirement.

Initially inspired by the usual high street suspects from advertisements in the weekend supplements, they had a good idea of what they wanted. Further preparation of a mood board with pictures from Pinterest crystallised their choice of a luxury classic kitchen with beaded details and nickel cup handles. Truly bespoke hand made kitchens are rare to find. The larger brands tend to pre-make units and are inflexible in terms of design. At Handcrafted Kitchens, leading kitchen designers in Cheshire Mr and Mrs P found a different approach, a truly bespoke kitchen, with a complete choice of cabinet size and design at a reasonable price.

When designing a bespoke handmade kitchen we believe it is really important to talk to our clients about the desired lifestyle they aspire to. Appliances often set the tone for the type of kitchen we design; for example, an Aga was a perfect choice for this Classic Shaker Kitchen with a traditional mantel. The design is initially mapped on a ground plan to ensure that the appliances, bespoke cabinets and kitchen island are planned exactly in proportion and are appropriate for the space.

Having finalised the ground plan the next stage was for our graphics team to prepare the 3 D computer-assisted design which brings the kitchen to life.  The colours chosen for the whole scheme are illustrated, from the cabinets, island, work surface and all the appliances to the floor and walls in a 3D format. Mr and Mrs P had initially chosen to paint the cabinets in French Grey but the CAD’s assisted their final choice of Buttermilk, giving a more classic feel and a perfect choice to showcase the Colonial White granite island.

A kitchen larder, tailored to their storage needs was a ‘must have’ in their kitchen. A beautiful place to keep breakfast appliances and dry goods, doubling as a work surface, all behind bifold doors. The perfect solution for a clutter-free kitchen.

The large mantel in this kitchen adds a perfect frame around the aga and sets the scene for the breathtaking kitchen Island. Handmade shaker panelling above the mantel with cupboards either side to store herbs, spices and oils with a mantel shelf large enough to house the whole Beatrix Potter family!

The kitchen Island really is a show stopper topped with thick, luxurious New York edge granite in Colonial white. Functioning as a preparation area as well as an eating space, with a large bespoke chopping board positioned opposite the Aga and wide solid oak pan drawers below.

Mr and Mrs P were absolutely delighted with their kitchen and have recommended us to friends and family alike. If you have been inspired and would like a design consultation with us for a hand made kitchen call us on 07894666301.
