On my first visit to Alan and Heather’s gorgeous cottage in Bramhall I knew we would be designing a very special kitchen.
After discussing optional kitchen designs I established that they wanted to change the existing kitchen layout and the style. Whilst they appreciated the quality of the existing kitchen by Smallbones, which had been bought with the house, they felt it was outdated and it did not work for them.
They approached us, a leading kitchen company Cheshire, as they wanted a new open plan space with a fresh classic feel, painted hand made cabinets with plenty of storage space and a larger dining room table to accommodate their grandchildren.
To create the open plan space desired to connect the kitchen and morning room, the wall and existing kitchen cabinets between the kitchen window and morning room were removed. This not only makes the area more spacious but allows the light from the patio doors to flood into the kitchen, inviting you to step into the garden.
The existing island made the kitchen feel cluttered and as the work surface was not used for preparation, it was dispensed with which allows a clear entrance from the hallway into the kitchen. The island had however been used for storage so our expert advice was sought on how to replace the storage space, in particular for their wine and champagne collection whilst also accommodating the American fridge freezer.
We designed the left hand side of the kitchen with bespoke floor to ceiling classic shaker cabinets in ‘plumbago grey’ to accommodate a large wine and champagne cellar, a cabinet to accommodate the existing fridge freezer and 3 large larder cupboards with wicker basket storage.
The dining table has been upcycled, by reusing the wrought iron legs and replacing the work surface with a large piece of Dekton Fjord to match the rest of the kitchen work surfaces.
If you look carefully you will notice that we have painted the original pine dresser in their home to match the rest of the kitchen and another bespoke dresser has been made to compliment this.
Throughout the process we consulted with Alan and Heather and they were able to finally check out the design before installation with the aid of the 3D CAD images which look nearly as good as the real thing!
We are proud of achieving everything on Alan and Heather’s wish list and we think their testimonial shows they were equally delighted!
‘’Having made the decision to overhaul the kitchen the next big decision is deciding which kitchen manufacturer to use .We were looking for a handmade approach with a hand painted finish. There are a number of luxury kitchen designers in Cheshire and Stockport but they are generally not interested unless you want to spend £50,000 plus. We found a local bespoke kitchen company Handcrafted Kitchens in Hazel Grove, Stockport who provided us with the design service workmanship and fitting that we were looking for.
Warren (director) and his team provided an excellent package from initial design using latest CAD techniques to installation.’’
