A kitchen island is one of the most popular requests from clients who ask us to design their perfect kitchen.
Island designs vary depending on the functions required in the kitchen. You may want to use it for extra prep area or storage space, fit in kitchen appliances and a sink or a mixture of all of these including a breakfast bar.
As bespoke cabinet makers, we can tailor your island to the exact size required. Whether it’s a house for you and your family or you live on your own or with a partner in an apartment. You many like entertaining or love your own company, we can make you the perfect kitchen island just the way you want it.
Here are a few of our recent kitchen island designs which we hope will inspire you:-
In this Bramhall property, the wall between the kitchen and living room was removed to create a wonderful new open plan kitchen dining living space. A peninsula island was the solution to creating a large kitchen island to seat 6 whilst maintaining access to the utility room. The peninsula cleverly delineates the kitchen from the dining area and is really space efficient.
Traditional Shaker Island with on-trend accessories.
This traditional white shaker kitchen island in a Victorian kitchen extension in Hale complete with Aga and painted tile splashback has been beautifully accessorized with on-trend feature copper stools and matching taps.
A Bar is not just for breakfast!
The island in the centre of this Shaker kitchen has been built around a roof support column and functions as an additional work surface combined with a breakfast bar. After 6, a perfect place for drinks! Even the dog has a smile on his face in this house!
The specification for this island was to make it large enough for the whole family to eat informally, so that is exactly what we created, room for six to sit with plenty of storage space at each end. The deep New York edged granite adds the finishing touch to this beautifully proportioned Derbyshire kitchen extension.
Kitchen Island concealing a support column
If you want a large island but have restrictions on the shape of your kitchen or obstructions such as a roof support just ask our advice. We can make your island fit in just about any space. The island below incorporates a roof support which is now barely visible, having been cleverly disguised painting in the same colour as the walls. A large island with seating for 5 has been installed with plenty of storage space and room for kitchen appliances.
Kitchen islands should be in proportion to the kitchen. The kitchen island below fits perfectly into this Victorian property in Sale to provide an additional work surface and storage space with room for 2 stools. In line with the specification, additional work surface and a place for helping kids with their homework whilst preparing dinner.
The ‘show off chef’ Island
If you enjoy being centre stage whilst entertaining why not put a hob into the work surface of your island so you can share your flare and dish up dinner in front of your guests! In this Didsbury property, the induction hob is positioned just so. With an amazing sound system and disco lights in the ceiling recesses, there is no need to ever leave the house!
This island with a beautiful Iroko work surface serves not only as a prep area with Belfast sink but incorporates a breakfast bar for ad hoc drinks and snacks, a wine rack, pan drawers, additional storage space and integrated kitchen appliances. The amazing extension in this beautiful Victorian Terrace in Lancaster allowed a long island but the width was designed to ensure that there was sufficient room for a full-sized dining table alongside.
