So, what’s the difference, you may ask? At Handcrafted Kitchens we hand make bespoke in frame and bespoke lay on cabinets for kitchens, media rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms at our workshop in Hazel Grove.
Bespoke In Frame Cabinets
As the name infers, these cabinets have a visible frame around the door or drawer face and the wooden doors, are generally hung on exposed butt hinges, within the wooden frame attached to the front of the carcass. The wooden frame attached to the wooden door provides great strength and is aesthetically a visual feature. Adding a cockbead to the frame is particularly in keeping with period properties.

For centuries, all cabinet furniture was made using the in-frame method because of it’s superior stability and durability which will last a lifetime. A simple yet elegant look, this type of kitchen design with Shaker doors looks equally at home in a Country Cottage, Victorian town house or new build home. Adapting the style of plinth or skirting and type of cornice can change the character of this type of kitchen to adapt to the surroundings. Take a look below at the variety of styles of in frame kitchens and other furniture made by Handcrafted Kitchens.

Bespoke Lay on Kitchens
This style of door usually gives a more contemporary look. Slab doors are generally used with lay on doors, each positioned next to each other creating a sleek finish across the cabinets. A perfect example below are the handless push to open book matched oak drawers installed in a home in Stockport. The boldly painted slab doors with J handles add a pop of colour to this contemporary kitchen design to complement the jewel colour scheme in the open plan living space.

With lay on kitchens, the doors attach to the front of the carcass, hung on modern concealed hinges providing great support and stability and can be fitted with a soft close function.
A very different design below was created for a detached property in Bramhall; a bespoke lay on minimal Scandi-kitchen design painted in soft green with brass accessories and natural leather handles. An oasis of calm and perfect retreat from a day in the city.
